La Flor - the perfect beach

South of San Juan del Sur, La Flor is one of the most beautiful beaches on the pacific coast of Nicaragua.

There are no hotels, restaurants, or stores on the reserve.

The main attraction is the egg-laying season for thousands of Paslamas turtles.

The egg-laying season is busiest from August to November. The turtles lay roughly 100 eggs and bury them under the sand so that the sun keeps them warm.

In the warmest part of the nest, females will hatch, and the rest will be males.

The eggs hatch after 7 weeks, and one of the most critical points for the young turtles is the trek across the beach from their nests to the water. There are animal as well as human predators that must be kept at bay.

This beach is located in a reserve area. The area is protected and patrolled by rangers who are responsible for collecting an admission price of approximately $5.

If you wish, you can camp on the beach for a nominal fee, but you must bring all of your own supplies.
